Philosophy
DoctrineThe Severed believe the Lattice is a lie — a grammatical prison imposed on reality to force it into shapes it was never meant to hold. The Collapse was not a catastrophe but a revelation — the first moment reality spoke honestly. This is not an abstract conclusion they reasoned their way to. It is what their homeworld, Shar-9, has been demonstrating ever since the founding act: every Archive attempt to reconnect it to the Continuance network fails, violently — as if the region itself remembers what silence felt like and will not surrender it back.
They are not nihilists. They are iconoclasts with conviction. They believe in a truth that exists beneath structure — a raw, unformatted state of being they call the Underneath, and they believe the Collapse was reality's attempt to reach it.
Their name comes from their founding act: the simultaneous destruction of every Archive relay in the Shar-9 system. The resulting silence was the first time in centuries a region of space existed without imposed structure. The founders reported hearing something in that silence — not sound, but presence. A choir of voices that had been singing beneath the Lattice's noise since before the Collapse.

Leadership caste who have undergone Severance — a ritual stripping personal continuity. They exist in an eternal present, which they consider the only honest state.
Choir Cells
Autonomous combat units with no central command. Cells sometimes fight each other — considered proof the doctrine is alive, not a failure.
The Unsung
Operatives who infiltrate Archive-controlled regions and destabilize their corrections. The Archive calls them terrorists; they call themselves gardeners.
Scream Engines
Weapons platforms that destroy local Lattice grammar rather than ships — targets become uncertain, flickering between states until coherence fails.
Homeworld & Ship Doctrine
Shar-9Shar-9 was once an orderly Archive relay hub, until the Choir's founding act tore it from the Continuance network in a single coordinated strike. Every Archive attempt to reconnect it keeps failing — the Severed read this as proof the Underneath isn't a metaphor. Severed shipwrights salvage rather than design: every hull begins as cannibalized Archive wreckage, deliberately left uncorrected.
